A terabyte or TB, is equal to 1,099,511,627,776 (240) bytes. However, the IEC defines a TB equal to 1012, or 1,000,000,000,000, bytes. Therefore, a TB could be equal to either of these values.

1. Abbreviated as meg or mbit, MB is short for megabyte. An MB is a common measurement used with computer storage media. A Megabyte is equal to 1,048,576 bytes. However, the IEC defines that one MB is equal to 1,000,000 bytes, or 106. Therefore, an MB could really equal either of these values although commonly the first value is used in computing.
  • How much is 1 byte, kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, etc.?
2. Mb is short for megabit and is 1,000,000 (106) bits. This term is used to express the rate data is transferred. For example, "10/100 Mbps" represents 10 or 100 megabits per second, the common speed of a standard network card.
3. mb or MB is also short for Motherboard, see the motherboard definition for additional information.
